Welcome All!! Today I have a special treat for you. This is the latest creation in my Garden Star Quilt Series. I am so excited for you to meet Garden Star 5, the Quilt Pattern. This is a pattern release day, so get ready for some fun!! We have a lot of things to talk about, so let’s get to it.

The Garden Star 5 Design

My Garden Star Quilt series is a unique and fun way to celebrate the simplicity of a half-square triangle. They are one of my go ways to make a larger and more impactful design. The square and half square can create just about anything, so it is no wonder why I keep coming back to it. This just might be my favorite quilt in the series. It features an X as the main design, but inside the x you will find another design.

The Garden Star 5 Quilt Details

This quilt has three different sizes you can make. Create a baby quilt (37” x 37”), throw quilt (59” x 59”), or Queen Quilt (89” x 89”). With each size you create, you will have the same design, just in a larger size. Click here to get your copy of the Garden Star 5 Quilt Pattern.

My favorite thing about this series is they are designed to work together. What do I mean when I say this?? If you make three of the following blocks: the baby-size block from Garden Star 5, the baby-size block from Garden Star 2, and the block from Garden Star 4… This is what it would look like.

Petunia The Fabric

I love how this Sweet Tart quilt turned out. The colors make me smile. I love the ladybug and radish found within the threads of Petunia. This is the newest line from Kimberly Night for Ruby Star Society (RRS). There are so many colors in the line, and that makes it fun and irresistible. They range from a midnight navy that leans to gray. The other fabric that duels this dark creation is the rust-red brown that the ladies of Ruby Star Society (RRS) call Cayenne. The line also plays with bright blues, soft greens and, a lovely lilac. A teaser of what is to come… Take a moment to think about what you would make with these fabrics.

Color Tip: A little secret on RSS when working with colors and their fabrics, you can search for their fabrics using the color name, like Cayenne. To get a feel for what I am talking about, you can click here to see what other fabrics from past fabric lines have the same color. Here is another link with the color name of a cactus. I think it is cool and helpful when trying to match fabrics.

Finishing the quilt

I used my favorite batting to finish this quilt, Hobbs Heirloom Wool. That is what gives the quilting on the quilt lift and texture galore. I spray-basted the quilt in my backyard on a folding table. Like most of the quilts I have quilted, I quilted it on my Bernina 440 using the walking foot. Simple lines always look great, and they are a time saver.
